I just wanted to say that although I've not heard your music before, I have seen joe play air guitar, and beside being babe-o-licious he ROCKS no matter what!
Ahhhh! Icky breathes life back into the list!!! (not that it wa lifeless before...) I find it amazing that such an absolutely incredible drummer has to get a day job! people should be beating down your door! hell, when i need to blow off steam I just play air drums (as correctly as possible) to "Breakfast by Tiger" and it's downright cathartic! (is that the right word??) and Im a guitar player! Well if I get famous quickly and you still need a gig, you got it!!!! My ID CD still hasn't left the car CD player since I disovered it (girlfriend in Australia turned me onto Jellyfish and then in an obsessive haze I started consuming all things related, Falkners solo album, both Moog Cookbook Cd's, and of course ID!!!) Definitely one of the best cd's of all time in my opinion! 4 overwhelmingly talented individuals. I really need to get off my ass and MAKE some music!!! ...and now if you'll all turn to track 5 of your ID cd's we will be listening and optionally air performing "Breakfast By Tiger" in the key of E major...a 1 and a 2....
Any fellow ID/Jellyfish fans out there? If so, email me. I'm sick of sad oasis neds
Hi. it's me. I'm back. I escaped the central ssssssssssscrrrrrrrrutinizer just in time to catch a killer rerun of "politically incorrect"-it was the rebuttal of the Presidential adress. I love that show! WHEW!!! I gotta tell ya...it sure is nice to hear such nice things said about oneself! You guys never cease to amaze me! I thought "it's been along time. they've probably given up hope. probably moved on to another band by now. NOPE! Not you guys! Thank you so fucking much! Yes, life has pretty much sucked since I.D. broke up (musically speaking), but I've got a few tricks up my sleeve. Just to come back here & peek my head in and see all the continued postings on here,...well,..it just...(sob)...JUST MAKES ME SO GODDAMN HAPPY,THAT'S ALL!!! (hand me a kleenex, would you dear?) I'm all verklempt! Tawk amongst yaselves!-SERIOUSLY THOUGH,...It really is awful cool to see that people still care (albeit a handful, but still...) YOU GUYS FUCKING ROCK!!!.O.K. So, you've probably been wondering what the hell I've been doing in the realm of music lately, RIGHT? Well, I tell you; I'm in the middle of putting together a new SUPERGROUP (tm) that I can't really talk about too indepth for fear that I might jinx it! Let me just say that anyone who was a fan of Jellyfish or Imperial Drag will definately be fully into what I'm doing! -FULLY! That's all I can tell you, sorry. -In answer to Adam's Querie about the loop of the drum intro to "Spyder"-hey man, that's totally cool that you thought enough of my part in that song ( my FAVORITE drum part, I might add!) to make a loop out of it! As far as sampling it, if it were up to me, I'd say go for it. But you know how those pesky, Evil, record companies, with their slimy lawyers & all can be! (The easiest way around that is to just change it a little!- drop a note here, a beat there, and VOILA!) I have to say, playing that beat every night of the tour was always a blast, no matter how tired I was. It just GROOVES all over the place-I'm not saying that in conceit- I'm just really proud of the feel on that particular song. That reminds me- if you're a really big fan of that song & the drumming (obviously you are,DUH,ICKY!?)- you should see if you can find the single version of that song-I say that mainly because the drum sound on the single is the ORIGINAL drum sound we got-A big, open, beautiful drum sound that sounds like you are standing in the room with your head right up next to the heads! Now, for some reason, for which to this day I cannot understand, ROGER(!) decided (being as he was the producer) that the drums sounded too much like they did on other tracks & needed a "different color" (whatever THAT means!?) so he compressed the SHEEATT! out of them-! This resulted in the Dry, muffled, dead-as-a-fuckin'-bag'o rice- (stop me if I sound slightly bitter), punk-ass-bitch, beat-to shit, flappy-ass, tubs that you hear on the album.(WHEW!) The single version, however is the ORIGINAL DRUM SOUND as intended by GOD. The difference is akin to watching the Wizard of Oz on a twenty-year-old, melted-in the backseat of your '74 pinto, RENTAL COPY, V H FUCKIN-S, version - as opposed to a brand spankin' new, Criterion limited edition-box set DVD with all the supplements on a twenty-thousand dollar, home entertainment center with THX(tm) and DOLBY PRO-LOGIC (also,tm) SURROUND SOUND!!! (gasp) Try it and see. (Editor's note: This was quite the sore spot betwixt me & Roger- we used to get into fisticuffs regarding this matter almost daily!-We've since kissed & made up- (grr) -) Welp kids, it's time for me to hit the road - 'till next time, keep the bugs off yer bumper & the bears off yer tail! This here's the Rubber Duck. We gone , BYE-BYE! Love, ICKUS.
Alright Icky!!!! A SUPERGROUP, huh?!?!?!? Let us know all the details as soon as humanly possible....
Wow! two messages from our little Icky in such a short time! way kewl, hopefully you make a habit out of this.... All i can say at this moment is MMMMMMMMMMMMM..............Supergroup(tm) you sure ya cant tell us any more???? Pleez?:) One more thing....does anyone know what the whisperong sound that sounds like "cheeseburger" in "Stare Into The Sun" is? Maybe you can tell me Ickster.... Well, gotta make trax I.D. ROX!!!!! till next time same Imperial place same Imperial channel.....
Hey Icky! Thanks for keeping in touch with us devoted fans as often as you do. It really means a lot to us! SUPERGROUP(tm)????? Hmmmm.... I wonder what that could possibly be. IMPERIAL DRAG, I mean how much more super can you get? I miss Joe's posts to this site. I wonder what he has been up to recently. Well, Just wanted to say thanks to Icky The Great for kepping us all informed. Although I do not post much I am still here and watching everything that comes up on this message board. Take care! Mark
Well I have to say that as cool as Icky thinks it is that we all still care and post and listen and groove, how could we not? I mean how many musicians do you know that actually post to their own lists and hang out with the "fans" like an old pal? That's 100 times as cool in my opinion! I hope we don't lose Icky to stardom when there's a million people posting and wanting to talk to him once he achieves the fame he desereves! GO ICKY!!! Not to neglect the other ID members who also kick ass, but you know, it's just that Icky "hangs" with us...
Hi Dragsters! Wussup?! Hey, uh... maybe the word "SUPERGROUP" was a bit strong- I was just trying to convey my excitement at the prospect of my new endevour. It's still in the embryonic stages as of yet, but I'm tryin'! I had no idea just how hard it was to start a band! I know that sounds really gay but, it's way more difficult than I imagined. But, rest assured, it WILL happen (one of these days!). HEY, I.D. LUV- YOU STILL RULE!!! Thanks for hanging in there! I have no idea what you are talking about regarding the "cheeseburger" whispering you thought you heard. I myself have not heard that, however I will check it out- I mean, we're talking about Eric Dover here, so, you never know...! OH! By the way, I have now officially joined the Tories. Yes, it's true. I just hung out with them this past weekend in San Diego (While watching the ever wonderful CHEAP TRICK, I might add-whom they have been on tour with!). I must say, they are the nicest guys I have ever met in ROCK. We just "jammed" today, & it sounds pretty fuckin' cool. (Don't worry, I'm still gonna do My thing - it'll just be on the "back-burner" for a bit!). Anyway, gotta go for now. Just wanted to update y'all a bit. "Til next time... Love, ICKY.
Dearest Ickarus:That is f*ckin' awesome news about The Tories! They were already just about my favorite current band and now they are gonna be something to SCREAM about!!!
Thanks also for keeping in touch here. Sorry for being so slow about updating this site, but I do have a life outside of this little corner. I'll get some more done someday...
Love,
Tiger
Hey everyone! I've been an ID fan for several months. Wouldn't you know it though, I get into a band and I find out they've just broken up. That seems to happen to me a lot. Well anyway, I don't usually post on boards but I wanted to say hi to ya'll. I'm really into a lot of bands from the Santa Barbara and LA scene. Actually someone already mentioned a few bands (Silver Jet, Summercamp, Skycycle, etc...) I'm working on a website (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Frontrow/9987) so if you know of any links, please email them to me so I can put them on the page! Thanx! I like the Tories too. Icky, I think it totally rocks that you're part of that group now! Peace to all, Jenni
Hi All, Lost my job and have to sell my collectibles to pay the bills! :o( I have the pre-release version of the debut album. Cool silver packaging and silk screend disc to match! Just e-mail me if interested for a quick response! Thanks! -Paul
Word spreads fast. Here's what was on the Tories website: Name: Steve E-Mail: Jlyfsh@webtv.net #3, Posted Sep 17 1998 2:07AM Oh my! This is just too freaky- in a great way! Talk about full circle..... I loved Imperial Drag, which was a natural turn from the Jellyfish breakup, and just the fact that Eric is jamming with you guys...... words can't describe the irony! I'm psyched either way. Can't wait to see the outcome..... Also will be listening for that "Jesse" theme tomorrow. Talk to you all soon! ------------------------------------------------------------ previous | next Name: Jason E-Mail: jpop@iquest.net #4, Posted Sep 17 1998 11:21AM I'm glad to hear that Erik may get the gig, but I really liked Brent's drumming. He had finesse (did I spell that right?) Eric seems like a power drummer, and I'm not sure if that will work in the Tories. Brent had lots of groove with lots of ghost notes on the snare and high hat. I thought that kind of playing added a lot the the band. I've seen ID live and have their CD (granted the drums on the CD sound like shit), and I thought they all were really good. But I seem to remember Erik as being a "basher". Maybe he's got some tricks up his sleeve and ID was cramping his style?!!!! Lets hope so! Keep on keepin' on..... Jason
Way cool Icky's got the new Tories gig. What the fuck is up with that "Drums sound like shit on the ID CD?" Hilarious. I thought the tories drummer was probably the most average drummer I've ever heard. Hilarious. Maybe I'll like the Tories a lot more now. They just need to hire me as their guitar player! *please note I'm not seriously being that egotistical*Now what's up with Gracie?!
And Eric's solo album?!
Is it true that Roger shaved his head?! Just kidding.
Adam
DRAGSTERS!-Hello! Have I got some insane news for you kids!!!- Well, let me start by saying that I am now an official member of the tories proper. These guys are sooooo awesome! besides being amazing musicians (of which I'm sure you all know by now, I'm a pretty fuckin' good judge of?!), I feel like I have three new best friends! Get to know Steve(lead vox),J.J.(guit.-vox), & James (bass & vox), as I will be referring to them quite often now. Well, m'friends, it just so happens that I played with these boys in Tulsa, Oklahoma this past weekend (opening for...oh nuthin...just CHEAP TRICK, that's all!!!) . Dragsters... I don't know if you can fully appreciate the magnitude this event had on yours truly, suffice it to say that it was tantamount to winning a million dollars in the lotto, or a dream date with Katie Holmes (Mmm,Katie Holmes!)!!!. O.K. first off, the tories played their asses off ( no thanks to me). then, after the show I went to go towel off, when who should I see hanging out at the backstage courtesy area, but TOM PETERSON? (The finest & only twelve-string bass player in rock) So, of course, I just had to go up to him and remind him of the time He & Robin came to see us in Cleveland (I.D.), which, surprisingly, he remembered! Then we were hanging out with Rick Nielsen, then with Robin (who also, surprisingly remembered cleveland!)-(EDITOR'S NOTE: for those not in the know, the "cleveland" incident involved a situation wherein two members of a couple of bands (names excluded-don't deserve mentioning) that were opening for us, decided it would be cool to trash the beautiful dressing room-backstage area-throwing bottles through windows & throwing shit around. Tom & Robin had seen the show, accidently, having walked into the club just to hang out & see a band-lo & behold: US! We invited them into the backstage to hang out which for me was just about to become reality when the rebels without a clue started flinging Dom Perignon. CRASH!!! In a nutshell, I went nuts. I immediately followed the guilty culprits into the dressing room area. They were still out of breath & laughing about their dirty deed. When I cornered them & confronted them about this bone-headed act, they just sort chuckled guilty, little chuckles, & muttered something like "it's cool, man". I almost picked them up by the nuts & strangled them."Who do you assholes think is going to get blamed & have to pay for this?" I said. They just sort of giggled some more. Next thing I know, Two bigass bouncer guys & a guy I presume was the manager, came in & yelled"Alright. Anyone who's not in the band, OUTTAHERE!!!" So,...We had to ...(sigh)... Kick ROBIN & TOM OF CHEAP TRICK OUT - OF - OUR - FUCKING - DRESSING ROOM!) Thus ends the Cheap Trick/Cleveland incedent. So, maybe now you understand a little more about my "relationship" with Cheap Trick. They were polite to sort of act like they forgot we kicked 'em out. After I talked to Tom, I managed to bump-into/come across Rick Nielsen & finally, Robin. They were more than friendly. We took photo's, asked for autographs - totally embarrassed our selves being the pathetic "fan-boys" that we were."Oh Rick, would you kindly sign my laminate? They were so cool about it. The only one I didn't get was Bun E. He's a bit more reserved than the others (shy?). We basically grovelled at their feet & whimpered!(well, not really whimpering, more of just a general worshipping; an homage, if you will...? After tearing us off of his leg, Rick & Co. went on out & laid waste to the paltry crowd, as is their usual M.O.. All the favorites were present (need I mention...?), and those guys showed all the young punks what that hole was for! (just a reminder; Robin's voice is still fierce enough to take paint off of the walls. Rick's still...insane! Tom wore his Big-ass cowboy hat. Bun E. ...well, he's still Bun E.! Still kicking MY ass on the traps! After the show, we all headed back for the hotel. The guys told me that V.H.1 ( the sponsor of the show) wanted to have sort of a "end-of-the- Tour" party. They said that our equipment would be set up in the bar in the hotel, and that the sound crew would set us up a little P.A.. Oh. And they also said that Rick & Robin were coming by,"maybe later, to hang out & maybe jam...". Hmm? Rick & Robin ,eh? Jam? NAH! It'll never happen! Rick will be tired, Robin probably just wants to kick back,...it'll NEVER HAPPEN. Well, it seemed my forecast was pretty accurate. Rick, it seemed, pulled a muscle or two in his back during the show, so he was out of the running, & someone was heard saying that the other guys probably couldn't make it because they had some show to do the next day. I knew it. Typical. Get my hopes up again. So I decided, "well, that's okay. We'll find something something to do." We'll just jam with some of the locals & drink some beer, etc."We'll have some fun. The crew guys Will be here & they're pretty cool. Well, after a quick jaunt (I actually Used that word!), to"Yo quiero Taco Hell" for some late-night nourishment (Mmm!,late-night nourishment!), I return to find the band in full swing, with the V.H.1 sound mixer on the drums! After consuming said nourishment, I rejoined my newfound, musical mates, in a rowsing rendition of "Gladys Kravitz"( the bands first single) We woke the sleepy bar patrons up & rocked through the next three original torie's songs. I specify "original" on account of what happened next; Looking out from my kit, who do I see but...YES! IT'S MR. ROBIN ZANDER HOLY SHIT!! What am I gonna do? Be COOL! just act "natural"! What happened next, I'm still not totaly convinced- but I know some crew guys took some photos, so, at least We have evidence of it's occurence. If you hadn't already guessed it, ...Yes,...(stop drum roll!) We jammed with ROBIN ZANDER of CHEAP TRICK! I'll say it again for those who didn't catch it the first time,...ROBIN ZANDER OF CHEAP TRICK! "MR. SURRENDER" "Mr. I WANT YOU TO WANT ME"! "Mr. DREAM POLICE"! For a full hour we Jammed, talked, hung out, jammed & Hung out (There was quite a lot of that) & Talked & ROCKED! The highlight of the evening was playing "Good night, now"...WITH...ROBIN! I would love to give you all the gory details, but I'm pushin' maximum letter density now! Perhaps at a later date I can illucidate the individual magic moments, but for now you'll just have to be satisfied with me telling you...I PLAYED WITH CHEAP, FRIGGING, TRICK -AND- jammed with the man they call,"ROBIN". THANK-YOU & GOODNIGHT!!! So, there it is kids. The whole truth & nothing but the truth. I played a bunch of blues songs with Cheap Trick's lead vocalist & hung out & talked at great lengths about everything under the sun; music, influences, life on the road, etc. The best part of that night, though, came when Robin kept firing the most amazing compliments at your's truly. Yep, ah, I guess he thinks I got what it takes as a drummer. I mean...y'know?...I knew I was GOOD, but... So, that's it for now. A small victory for the city of Tulsa,O.K.- A gigantic dream/fantasy of mine- fulfilled! I can die now. -ICKY.
DAMMIT Icky! That's so cool! Try to rub it in more though next time. Wow.
Quick question!?! Did i see you go into "All Is Forgiven" while ID was playing "Crosseyed"? I have a live video of ID that a friend gave me and i watch it every few minutes. Coincidence, then? If you didn't mean to, it sure as hell sounds like you did. I mean it was awesome. A little treat for us to pick up on since we listen so much.If you did do that quote from "Forgiven" on purpose, damn cool! Sometimes I put Zeppelin's "Since I Been Lovin' You" in one of our songs. Likewise, i noticed "Interstellar Overdrive" snuck into the intro for "Zodiac Sign" quite nicely. I think that's cool as freaknasty (whatever that means).
Also, i didn't intend on using your drum loop in our song. 1st of all, we sped our song up and the beat changed a tad. I just used the drum loop as the most BITCHIN' writing tool ever. I'm stranded 300 miles away from my drummer up here at school and i have to keep writing all the time. So i thought i should tell you that you are helping bands you've never met. And i already had the single for "Spyder" if you'll notice an earlier post.
HEY! This tories thing (good for you!) doesn't mean that you'll stop writing to the drag chatters, does it? -Adam http://members.tripod.com/~Ell3n
Hey, Adam- NO fuckin' way dude!!!- (WOW, that was soooo "So Cal"!) I will always post on this site (unless I start my own project, in which case I'll have my own-Sorry Tiger!). Thanks for being "our biggest fan"! And no, I don't think I put "all is forgiven"-Awesome a part as it is- in "Crosseyed". Anyway, gotta go. See'Ya! -ICKY.
imperial drag=awesome
Icky - that's awesome!!! Sounds like you are having a great time already. :-) - Jenni (oops, I didn't post the URL for my webpage last time) (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Frontrow/9987)
Message boards and I do not get along. Let's try this again. Here's my webpage (and please send me your ID links so I can add them):http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Frontrow/9987
Icky, The fact that you talk with such respect and awe about Zander and Company just reinforces the reason why I love bands like Jellyfish and Imperial Drag. The fact that you're now the beat behind The Tories is almost overwhelming! You are an incredible drummer, and I just can't wait to hear the new results. I have a few questions that I hope you can answer: First, I only know you from Imperial Drag, whose songs were penned by only Manning/Dover- do you write? If so, will we see anything written by you with The Tories? Next, if you can say- did Rogar ever talk about what happened with Jellyfish? If so, what the hell happened? Also, is there a snowballs chance in hell Imperial Drag will ever resurface? If not- WHY? Well, now that my Geraldo Rivera moment is through, hopefully you can answer at least one question ( preferably all! ). Thanks for the stories, keep 'em coming, and much success on your new ventures. I'm a big fan, and I'll be watching! By the way, on your first show with The Tories, please make it down to the Ft. Lauderdale area! Steve
Hola! Just had a few questions. Is the fan club still around? I don't know how current this site is. Further still, is there a Jellyfish fanclub out there? Lastly, is there any place to get a hold of ID or Jellyfish live or promo discs (especially ones with unreleased tracks)? Somebody please drop me a line. Thanks, JT
