Hey all, I have nothing to say other than that I enjoyed reading all of these messages while eating my Cabo Combo from Rubio's Taco Shop. If you're not in San Diego, then you'll just have to dream of eating a fish taco this joke 'cause it ain't gonna happen in your reality. Anyone else looking forward to the new Imperial Teen album as much as me? Love & kiss us, Adam
Hey Adam! PLEASE give me an update on Jason Falkner's new album. The webpage states it's due out Jan 1998 ??? Should that be Jan 1999 ??? I'm dying to hear what you've already gotten a glimpse of...
to "someone who should know"...don't get me started. you obviously don't. and adam, out of respect to this website, the drags, and all else involved, that is all i will say. this is not a site of HATE. rory - try Super Deluxe, Posies, (tho' neither are as heavy as ID, but still beautiful pop) try Silver Jet, Sparkler, Summercamp, Sloan, hopefully someday soon in Ireland, but also to anyone else reading in the states, look for Skycycle, also try David Garza for that 'dose of retro' ala t-rex, try a bit of Self, a dash of Failure and you just might find yourself pleasantly rocking. there are many more, tune in later. Roger touring Japan with Beck AND working on remixes for Air?!? or so a little bird once said. Joe still playing with Gracie, and Icky putting together his new thang! (Roger and Dover - 'dear friends'? keep dreaming you DON'T know) ok, that's all i promise. quiche's
Guys, I recently saw DOVER in L.A. a few weeks back.Perhaps he really has gone " cukoo for cocoa puffs ! " , I intoduced myself as a fan of the I.D. he just giggled a " hee heeee ! " and got directly into his black 78' T.A. and burned some rubber leaving the parking lot ! Oh well ! I still say they rock !!!
I think it would be a fantastic idea if Roger Manning would give Jason Falkner a call and see about working together again. After listening to their efforts apart from Jellyfish, I decided that they are the true talents from the band and should work together again. If they got Tim Smith back in the groove and find a drummer they all agreed upon ... that would be a fantastic band. Roger, I realize Beck gives you a decent payday, but you're far too talented to be playing behind the scenes. Step up and be a bandleader! Make the effort! It's only a phone call away. Life is too short to let past animosities or mis-understandings get in the way. I know if you put forth the effort, your star will burn brighter. Jesus, if I keep it up, people will think I'm Tony Robbins. But, I think Roger Manning is a great talent and I'd like to see more of his music. Yep. I need my Roger Manning fix. For those who haven't heard it yet, Jason Falkner's previous album is probably the best thing I heard last year. I know it was. I wish I didn't wait so long to buy it. After listening to it, you'll understand why it seems natural that Roger and Jason are a good fit. Ok ... now I'm rambling. All I wish for is for Roger to be more prolific. Whether it's with Jason or with Tim Smith or a solo effort or whatever. You got a fan.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOWDEE-HO,DRAGSTERS!!! (no,it's not Mr. Hankey, it's your beloved ICKARUS, back from the silicon grave!) I must appologize for the abnormally long gap in communication to y'all. I really have no excuse to tell you. I've actually been busy WORKING as of late. No, not working on music like I should be,(although I have been brewing up a little concoction of my own, more on that later!) no, sadly I had to go back to "working for the man". It sucks, but I.D. ain't payin' the bills any more, so...I'm takin' what they're givin'. At least my job isn't too horrid. I'm working for a man named Patrick Tatopoulos. You may recognize his name if you saw the recent blockbuster/flop "GODZILLA". He is the guy who actually designed & fabricated the three-dimensional (as opposed to the computer-generated one) creature for the film. I myself haven't seen it yet (go figure!), mainly because I heard it was such a piece of crap! Oh well! What's a couple of hundreds of millions down the drain?! That's "Hollywood" as they say! The creature they created here is actually kind of cool lokking when you can see it up close, not covered by fog & sheets of computer-generated rain. Anyway, so, I work there. "It's a livink!" But enough about ME. I s'pose by now everyone interested has read my posting regarding MY opinion of "WHAT REALLY HAPPENED"-Yes? If it freaked anyone out-terribly sorry, chaps! I simply had to get that off my chest. It's a good thing I did, because I feel a whole lot better! The past is "behind me" as they say. Time to move on. Recently, someone posted that they liked the band "the Tories"-funny thing, that; I was contacted by some of their people the other day about possibly joining their band. Don't get all worked up into a froth just yet, though! I still haven't heard their music (save for a show of their's I caught some time last year at the Troubador- they were good as I remember, though they sounded almost painfully similar to a certain water-dwelling, gelatinous, sugary-sweet pop band (JELLYFISH, O.K.,EINSTEIN?!)-almost to the point of being a tribute to them (sans all the bells & whistles-literally!)- (which is probably why all you Jelly-heads like'em so much!). I seem to recall thinking they were alright, though a tad on the precocious side ( aw, hell-I thought JELLYFISH were precocious - they just pulled it off so amazingly, I didn't mind!)- but they were good, so...WHO KNOWS?! I just (briefly) hung out with Mr.Roger the other day. He's doing well. I trust by now you've all heard about the Beck tour? Lucky bastard! He digs it! Shit! Who wouldn't? Anyway... I have to go, suddenly. Until next time, my pretty-pretties...Buh-BYE! -Love, ICKY.
It is all as i expected (and feared)... our beloved Icky working for the man again. Try not to let him get you down. Also, although i happily bought the Tories album, i grew really tired of it after about 5 listens. "Almost a tribute to Jellyfish" is probably an appropriate term. They were good... real good. But i just can't seem to get excited about them.
I'm also working on getting a copy of "Why Cats Paint", so i can OWN "Breakfast". Call me obsessed. Anybody else have this book?
Also, ICKY... I wrote the title track to our upcoming album by working with a drum loop of the beginning of "Spyder". We're not using the loop on the reord, obviously and we've changed the song a lot. But that beefy drum sound inspired me to write one of my favorite songs! And it sounds nothing like Spyder, don't worry... Adam http://members.tripod.com/~Ell3n
Yo Ickster, Nice to hear yer not dead man, totally sux about the job, but what can you do huh? Im still convinced that youre truly destined for true superstardom, this is just a small bump in the road. Adam, ill have to agree with you about the tories, i think i got a little too worked up over them when i first heard the sound clips, i ran out, bought the album, gave it quite a few listens and like you said, tires of it quickly:( Alas I.D.LUV is once again left without anything new and exciting to hear, i suppose ill just sit and wait for my Jellyfish greatest hits disc to get here from Japan......Ive also been turning back to the Drag album which ive so stupidly put aside too long and was reminded of oh so too many memories, good ones though:) Well thatz it 4 now, once again Icky thanx for keepin in touch dont be a stranger, we luv ya here (well the ones that matter anyway) write often P.S. has anyone heard from Satomi???? till next time dragsters, I.D. IZ DA ONLY 1!!!:)
Thanks for the update, Icky...It's good to hear that you and Roger are still alive and well...Let all of us know about your musical future (hopefully you can quit that day job soon!!!!) Take care, and good luck in all of your pursuits...
hey adam....i have 'why cats paint.' it's a really neat book. it made 'breakfast' my fave song on the album, closely followed up by 'cross-eyed'. same here with the tories...i listened to it under the advice - 'you like all that brit-pop, right? you'll like this' and it did nothing for me, i got rid of it. it would be nice to see everyone's fave drummer icky show up playing somewhere, huh? great the roger's doing stuff, and joe is still plugging along too, i guess. (sigh) i miss the drags. some interesting stuff out tho' that is new that some other dragaholics might dig....the new elliot smith is good. so very well produced. VERY jellyfishy! it was like they gave elliot 3 billion dollars to make a record and he got the london philharmonic to work with him. it sounds nice, tho.' and remy zero, i'm trying to make up my mind with that one...i'm not sure if it's just the hype machine at work.
